It’s very easy to say that murdering is bad as a general principle, and not go into too much detail about it, but society must also deal with more debatable issues at hand, the same ones that America is dealing with right now. Examples could include the rights over abortion and gay marriage. Another philosopher, John Rawls, examined Habermas’ argument and extended on it to help clarify what should be done when faced with these more complex issues: everything should be seen impartially. Rawls believed that what Habermas stated was true, but the people who made up these laws for the society should have made them entirely impartially. In other words, they should have had no personal attachment to any kind of party involved in the effects of the law. For example, concerning how men and women should be treated, the people making the laws should have considered themselves to be neither men nor women so that they could not make the laws from a point of view of wanting the greatest advantage for themselves.
