... titled “Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy” grew greatly in popularity, playing on almost all types of radio stations. I along with most Americans quickly became attached to the song. Few could resist the exhilarating new style lyrics. When I heard that Big and Rich were to debut their CD I was weary of buying it. As much as I loved “Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy” it was the only song by them I had ever heard. I came to the sentiment that led me to believe these guys were just another one hit wonder. I was sold on the idea that the rest of "Horse of a Different Color" would probably sound like everything else on the old time country radio station. Boy, did I make the wrong discernment. Luckily, I was introduced to the CD in whole while on a road trip. I found that not only do Big and Rich have other good songs, but they have many better then Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy. Shortly after hearing the CD for the first time I purchased a copy of my own. After hearing the CD in its entirety several times it still has parts of songs that cause one to ask themselves is this really a country CD. That question is what I believe Big and Rich wanted us to wonder. Indeed this is country it is just a new breed of country music and Nashville is loving it. Due to the many different genres portrayed in the CD there is a song to fit every mood. “Horse of a Different Color” is the best country CD since Garth Brooks, “Greatest Hits“. Not only for its up beat tempo and clever lyrics but for the song diversity. While most country music songs are stories about farming, drinking or relationship problems “Horse of a Different Color” mixes it up and provides us with new never heard before song plots.
