The claim that environment has an effect on human behavior is proved within this study. The weaker points of this article include Ray Blanchard’s explanation of homosexuality. The information provided lacks consistency on the subject it addresses. Since his claims are not true for all homosexual males the information can be deceiving. He does not state a percentage or even a ratio. He states the reason why some males are homosexual but does not explain why the majority of homosexual men are the way they are. Even through the author showed strong points to support his argument, a few statistics lacked consistency. Some of the ideas discussed in class directly relate to this article. I have learned that everyone is born with innate instincts and have predetermined characteristics. People, even infants have an innate curiosity to explore the unknown. “For human beings, the natural impulse to handle interesting objects can be overwhelming, which may be one reason why the command “don’t touch” is so often ignored by children, museum-goers, and shoppers.(Travris pg. 80)” I also learned that all human behaviors are a mix between genes and environment. “Not all traits are equally heritable or unaffected by shared environment.(Travris pg.111)” The views I have learned in class agree with Ridley’s claim that behavior is a combination of nature and nurture. The lesson about how genetics affect behavior can help explain the actions of some of the world’s criminals. The reason serial killers are corrupt can directly apply to this article. Genetics play a role in the actions of morally degenerate people.
