They also are not required to wear the uniforms after school or on weekends, so there is plenty of time to express themselves through clothes. Also, school is only 180 days out of the 365-day calendar year, which leaves them with 185 days that they can wear whatever they want. Uniforms should be required for many reasons. One of the main reasons is because of the self- esteem issue, previously mentioned. Studies have proven that students who attend public schools with no uniform policy suffer from lower self-esteem than kids who attend schools with uniforms do. The violence level in those schools is also on a rise, as well as the amount of cliques that form. If uniforms were required, it would alleviate some of the stress off of the students-they would not worry so much about how others are judging them because of what they wear, but they would judge them because of who they are, as a person. The expense of clothing today is ridiculously high, which tends to add up quickly for the parents, who purchase most of their children’s clothes. An outfit of jeans, t-shirt, and shoes can cost anywhere from $40 to $100 dollars, and more. Keep in mind that more than one of these outfits needs to be purchased for each child, every year. With uniforms, only two or three outfits need to be purchased, each at only about $40 dollars an outfit. This would, in the long run, save families a lot of money on clothes.
