...particular people develop these disorders especially the ones who didn’t show it in the earlier years. They examined the association between adolescent depression and difficulties in young adult psychosocial functioning by comparing depressed adolescents to adolescents who were not depressed. They also observed whether or not ADHD in adolescence caused the effects of adolescent depression on young adult functioning. For the observations these authors used the total enrollment of nine high schools in two urban and three rural communities. The sample was based on the size of the school and grade and the sex within the grade. Three interviews were given one while they were in high school, a second approximately one year later and the third interview was given after the participants 24th birthday. The three interviews basically covered how they felt about the different disorders and whether or not they thought it was a problem that really affected them. The 18 to 19 year old interviews were basically to determine which parts of the sample had experienced the MDD before the age they were. The 24th year interview was to determine who had the depression and what could have caused the individuals to develop it. The researchers came to the conclusion that was reached was that individuals who had MDD as adolescents tended to show the reoccurrence as young adults.
