...ocial life. The Renaissance was an age of recovery from disasters of the 14th century such as the plague, political instability, and a decline of Church power. Another characteristic of the Renaissance was that a new view of human beings emerged as people in the Italian Renaissance began to emphasize individual liberty. The Reformation, on the other hand, also had a bundle of characteristics. The Reformation was when the western Church was divided into Catholic and Protestant groups. During the reformation Christian humanists believed in the ability of human beings to reason and improve themselves. Also, during the Reformation, there was lots of corruption in the Catholic Church. When one thinks of the Renaissance, one may think to himself, “What caused the Renaissance?” A cause or definition, Re-birth, meant the rediscovery of ancient Roman and Greek heritage through ancient manuscripts and the humanist method of learning. These new ideas from the past triggered the coming advancements in art, science and other areas, causing the Renaissance to occur. The Reformation, which Martin Luther began in the early 16th century, was in a way caused by Martin Luther’s posting the Ninety Five Theses on the door of the Catholic Church. Also, Christian Humanists pushed their way toward the Reformation, because they wanted to reform the Catholic Church, which was very corrupted.
