One million disabled children were excluded from school before the Education for All Handicapped Children Act was passed in 1975. Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) has given many children with disabilities the right to a good education (“Making a Good Law Better” 1). These laws provide the least restrictive environment for a disabled student. According to P.L. 94-124, a disabled child must be placed in the least restrictive environment, unless “the disability is so severe that an appropriate education cannot be achieved” (Russell 185). There are many groups and organizations all over the country fighting for provisions and changes in the laws to better help those students with disabilities. Many disabled students need the assistance of an aide or a machine. A person who is blind will need his or her work in Braille. Now, students who might be slower at writing notes or assignments in class have access to a lap top computer. They are able to type their notes and print them later on any type of printer.
