The war of 1812, an unnecessary war fought between Great Britain, United States, and France, was partly a result of the successes of Napoleon and his French army. America was officially neutral in the war between Britain and France, but trade with both. ... Although Britain was trying to protect their country, they were also at fault for this unnecessary war through England. ... These reasons all unjust and unfair reasons for war. There was a loss of over 100,000 lives and thousands of millions of dollars, all fro a war of land and power. What truly came of this war? ...
The main reason for this war being under published is because everyone knows it was an unfair and unjust war. A war that could have and should have been prevented.
Looking further into why the Americans went to war we see it was not properly justified and unnecessary. One of the grounds for war included in Madison’s message to congress was that the royal navy was blockading the American coast. This was not the case, but it served to win a few key undecided votes to the war cause. ... What won the politicians to the idea of an anti-British war were the prizes that a victory would bring:
1) Bringing Canada into the union, long an ambition of the northeastern elite.
