They made fun of her excluded her from most of their activities. Pecola was not treated as a person with feelings, but she was treated like a creature or an animal. Children in school can be very cruel, but the children learn this type of behavior from some where. This is because adults do the same thing. For example, Geraldine, who played Junior did not know Pecola. But, based on Pecola’s appearance, Geraldine believed Junior’s false accusation that Pecola had killed her cat. Pecola did actually believe that she was ugly. She began to wish for blue eyes because she felt that they would bring her beauty. Pecola did not really understand why she was treated so badly by the other children. All she wanted was to be accepted. Pecola was also discriminated against because of her home situation. The people in her neighborhood and school knew the type of home that Pecola came from. The were of the type of parents that Pecola had. The adults were aware of the conditions of Pecola’s actual living quarters. Pecola could not help that her home evironments was not really appropriate or healthy. This was all that Pecola ever know, and it was beyond her control. Cholly, Pecola’s father was not really a father.
