Political Babbling

... the beliefs of the Republican party. Lowing taxes and not giving her hard earned money to the helpless without them working for it. My grandmother says she does not mind helping a little as long as they work for it. She says “don’t give hand out’s , give hand-ups”. My grandmother will never forget this nations history. There is just way to many things that had happened both tragic and wonderful. The most unforgettable things that have happened in this country are the 30's, the Great Depression, the assassination of our President Mr. John F. Kennedy, and a Republican campaign that took place in her home down for the election of Senator. My grandmother unfortunately had to live throughout the Depression and experience the horrible tragedies that came along with it. Throughout this time my grandmother experienced growing up in a poor , run down city. Now at this time my grandmothers family was considered to be one of the most well off families in the neighborhood. She told me a story where her and her sister would be sent next door to eat their dinner every other night and the neighbors daughters would come over to their house and have dinner. Her neighbors were considered one of the lower income families so they did not have enough money to go out to the grocery store and buy well rounded meals. However my grandma’s family had vegetables and other wonderful items where as the neighbors had to go to the city and accept their handouts of rationed salted pork. Now my grandmother love going over to her neighbors house and having this pork because she loved the flavor of it. The parents on both sides agreed that this would be the best and healthiest way for all the girls to get a variety of foods and be happy. My grandmother was in pure shock when the assassination of Kennedy took place. She could not believe that somebody would assassinate our President and because she was in such full shock she’ll never forget that event in our history. My grandmother felt like she made a part of our history by acting as a volunteer in a republican candidates campaign to become a California Senator. Senator George Murphy. She helped to bake those really large cakes with the Presidential seal on the middle of the three cakes. The outside two had red and blue stripes. She was so happy to be involved in a political event when she was younger that it too will be something that she’ll never forget. Senator George Murphy wasn’t her favorite politician. Her favorite politician happened to be President Richard (I’m not a crook) Nixon. She believes Nixon led the best foreign policy this nation has ever had. According to her he loved this nation and she admired him because he “worked his way to the top”. Now on the other end of the stick she believes Truman to be the worst President of the USA. She was “disgusted” by the fact that he gave the order to drop the atomic bombs on Japan (She also did not know that this program was known as the “Manhattan Project”. I thought that was interesting). My grandmother said when it came for re-election time that there was nobody whom could convince her to vote for Truman. That was not going to be her first time for voting for Truman and that wasn’t going to be her first voting experience. Her first voting experienced took place the year of 1944. She recalls not being able to vote until the age of twenty one so therefore she did not vote until she was twenty-three years old. She voted then and votes on a regular basis. If my grandmother could be president for a day she would bring peace to the world. Even if it was for one day she would hope that...
