Life After High School
... really thinking my options out, I decided to go ahead and join the Army. This was one of the biggest decisions that I had to make. I decided three years is along time, but at the same time I would meet a lot of new people, see new places and things, and I would be doing something positive in my life to get ahead. My parents were so proud and happy for me. I really nervous because this was my first time away from home and was this the right decision. I left home Feb. 17, 2000. This was my first time on an airplane too. I arrived at Fort Knox, Kentucky the next day, on my own and ready to start my new life. When I arrived there were around 200 to 400 young men in the same boat I was in. A lot of young men coming from all around the world to become soldiers. It was all males too. It was really cool to meet people from all parts of the U.S. Some are still my friends to this day. After basic training, I then went to Abberdean, MD. for 12 weeks. While in Maryland, I had the chance to come home on some weekends. I was really missing my family and friends back home, but at the same time I was meeting new friends also. After my 12 weeks, I went home for 2 weeks then I was off to my permanent duty station in Savannah, GA. This ...
