the coolector book review
...he book. There where many themes in this book such as love, hate, man vs. society and man vs. man. Love is a large part of the book. Fowles shows that love is something that needs to be taught and each person has there own opinion on what it is for example “Miranda I love you. How can you love me if you don’t know me” (pg 67)” Clegg really believes he loves Miranda even know they have never really talked. He really has no concept of real love he thinks beauty and personality “the way you carry yourself”. Miranda thinks that love is control and power and that’s shown when she talks about G.P her “boyfriend” and says that how he treats her bad, talks down to her, but interreges her. Even though she knows G.P is not a good guy she still says “so I guess when I get out I will marry G.P (pg 207)”. Showing she to has no understanding of love. Fowles portrays love as many different things such as crazy twisted and most of all something that will drive someone crazy. Clagg is always fighting with himself and his own ideas he has no concept of reality and that’s shown thought the book and something the reader must understand and analyze. When describing there physical fetchers he some what leaves it open for the imagination, but when you start reading in to the book Fowles describes Clegg the kidnappers personality it really starts to come clear. You start to realize that he is very obsessive “when she was home from boarding-school I used to watch her every day (pg10)”, Also very over normal person. Very plane Jane, no social skills. Sex and love was something very foreign to him. Which is a major factor in the book. Miranda the victim in the story is the person that seems very outgoing, smart, determined, and very innocent. But again as you start to read into the story you start to see that she is very...
