...arations to the Allies. Alsace-Larraine was returned to France under the treaty. The worst part for Germany was the War-Guilt Clause it was required to sign. This forced Germany to sign saying that they took full responsibility and blame for World War I. All of these things weakened Germany, but there were three main weaknesses. The first weakness was how Germany was stripped of all Military. They played a major role in the war and starting it, but other countries were guilty of fueling the fire as well. The War-Guilt Clause made many Germans furious. This caused them to downright abhor the treaty. There was also no chance of being able to pay off all of the reparations. The second weakness involved the Bolshevik government, they felt that they were ignored by the Big Four (Wilson, Orlando, Lloyd George, and Clemenceneau). They had the most casualties of any nation and didn’t feel enough was being done for them. They lost a lot of territories as well and wanted to regain each and every one of them. When the Peace Conference came around they weren’t involved in that either. The third weakness resulting from the treaty was the decision of what should have been done with the colonial territories. Germany had lost all of its colonial possessions which could have contributed to its large reparations bill. Colonized People that wanted self-determination were ignored under this treaty. In the Twentieth century an example of independence that was ignored happened in Southeast Asia in the French colony of Indochina. They had been searching for independence and one man stepped up to work for it. Ho Chi Minh appealed to president Wilson. His idea wasn’t even considered by Wilson. He wanted a constitutional government with political and civil rights. Ho Chi Minh wasn’t satisfied and later formed the Indochina Communist Party and helped fight against the French right up until his death. The treaty had a big effect back in the United States and it wasn’t exactly a good one. Many U.S. groups and citizens opposed Wilson’s plan. One of these people was Herbert Hoover. He said that “The economic consequences alone will pull down all Europe and thus inquire to the United States” . Many others agreed that it was too harsh as well. Some viewed it merely as a sellout to imperialism or an exc...
