Islamic response to Abortion is that under normal health conditions it is seen as an elaborate act of killing an innocent person and therefore is not allowed. Even if the conception is a result of rape or extra-marital union abortion is not permitted, because of the belief that the baby to be is innocent and deserves the right to live. Again abortion is only allowed when there is a risk to the mother’s health. Christian response to Abortion however is mixed. A Catholic response it that a fetus develops a soul at conception therefore abortion is murder. This was declared in 1869 by Pope Pius IX. Catholics have been known to fiercely oppose abortion and have often made anti abortion campaigns which target pregnant woman and try and educate them on the issues of abortion in an attempt to stamp out the practise. Abortion is permitted if the pregnancy is going to endanger the mother’s life such that it is conceived in the fallopian tube or somewhere else where it could result in the death of the mother. This response could really restrict a woman’s rights especially if they were a rape victim and so perhaps the catholic church should be less strict like most other Christian churches and allow abortions if the Contraception occurs as a result of rape. The Islamic religious tradition is viewed as having a great taboo about sex in general. It is seen as a shameful act and is not discussed publicly in Islamic cultures. Premarital sex is considered a serious crime and sin in Islamic law, and is sternly prohibited. Islams are also strongly against same sex relationships. This infers that the Islamic religion is rather restrictive on human rights and thus does not seem as forgiving as most western religions or as open. This does not allow people to express themselves with absolute freedom and would rather hold people back. Jewish teaches that sex should only happen after marriage so to demonstrate a sense of commitment and responsibility. After marriage however there is a much more open attitude towards sex and sexuality then in other religious traditions such as it is not sinful to indulge in acts of love with a partner other then...
