...t as afraid as she was. As they were taking her on the horse a man in a yellow coat saw them. The man knew her father because the night before she had run away the man was at Winnie’s house. Winnie was happy because she knew the man would tell her father. Anyway when the Tucks got to a place they thought were safe they stop and told her the story about how they got to live forever. They told her that they drank from a magic spring and that’s how they stayed the same. They didn’t know until ten years when they saw they still looked the same that the spring was magical. So they told her the reason why they didn’t want her to drink it was because it would made her stay the same forever. Winnie didn’t know whether to believe them or not. They wouldn’t let Winnie go until they knew she wouldn’t tell anyone and that she understood the reason why she shouldn’t tell. Anyway she got used to them and really liked them. Then one day the old man who she was so sure would tell her family went for Winnie. The Man heard about the spring so he was going to sell the water to people so he could become rich. But the Tuck couldn’t let that happen because everyone would live forever and the world would be crowded. Winnie didn’t want to go with the old man so he pulled her and Mae Tuck wasn’t about to let the man take Winnie or let him tell people about the water so she took a gun and shot him. A police saw her so they arrest her and took Winnie home. Winnie felt sorry for Mae Tuck. Miles, Jesse, and Tuck came up with a plan to help Mae Tuck escape from jail and they would go to another country. Jesse told Winnie and Winnie wanted to help so she said she would go in the jail and act as Mae Tuck so the Tucks could have time to run away. Jesse also gave Winnie some of the spring water in a bottle and told her that when she is seventeen drink it and go look for him.
