...esents the american dream, she has a tatoo of an american flag under her belli button. The white men are tuanting the black boys as if they were saying they could not have the american dream. They could look but not touch. He is thinking of covering her up and covering the eyes of the white men. He feels her pain by seeing her fake smile. He is just as humiliated as she is. Next they are forced to be blind folded and throne into a boxing ring. They are blindfolded with a "white cloth". This sybolizes white control and the disadvantages they have in the world from the beging. They are all fighting each other for money except the protagonist, he wants respect from the white men. All he can think about is giving his speech. He wants to win so baddly he cheats by lifting one side of his blindfold up. No one cheers for him but he still belives he can win against the big guy. He loses the fight and is distrot thinking he will not be able to give his speech. After getting paid all the black guys have to fight over fake coins on an electrified carpet. The fake coins represent the american dream as well because there is an automobile on the the coin. After he relizes it is electric he tries not to touch the carpet. He holds onto a white man and his chair. He wants to topple him on the carpet. He thinks it is "such an enormous idea". This is a glimse of his grandfather ideology of the "good fight". He does not win the fight because he gets kicked on to the carpet and is defeated again. He finally gives his speech. He can harly get through it because people will not stop interrupting. He is swallowing his blood from the fight while giving the speech. Every time someone inerrupts, like the blood, he swallows his pride and keeps going.
