...re for the animal as he/she would have before. If we are going to do this to the animals, wouldn’t they be better off in the wild away from our intervention? It is because we cannot always care for the animals to the same extent all the time and treat them well, thus we should not keep them and exploit then for our entertainment. Thirdly, by having the animals ‘act’ and ‘perform’, we make them behave like humans and express human emotions, having done so, shouldn’t we then treat them as we would any other human? And if they were any other human being, then they would have ‘rights’ as well. And under article 4 of the universal declaration of human rights - No one should be held in slavery or servitude. Keeping these animals and forcing them to ‘perform’ would be against their rights. The keyword here is ‘forcing’. the animals never chose this path, we force the animals to behave in a certain way, strike a certain pose. in the wild, away from the pressure put on them by their human ‘masters’, the animals would have no need to do such things. The reason why they comply, and do what they have been made to do is that they are frightened into doing so. to get rewarded would be fine, but if the job were not done well, the punishment would be horrible! When I got my first puppy, and wanted to train it, I was told by a professional to hit it if it did something wrong. Hence we see that the animals do their little ‘tricks’, not because they like or want to but because they are frightened into it. They never chose to perform the tricks, unlike humans, which bring me to my forth point. Humans have the skills and features to express their feelings , which animals cannot do to full human comprehension. They cannot say if they want to or not to join a circus for example, but humans can. There are many wonderful circuses, such as Cirque du Soleil, that do not use animal acts at all, and yet they dazzle their audiences with thrilling tricks performed by humans, all of whom have made the conscious choice to participate in the circus.
